Day 178 - False Alarm

Day 178 - "Dreams" Fleetwood Mac (Psychemagik Remix)

The time in my life had come where I needed to quickly evaluate which materialistic items in my home were most important to me, grab those items and flee out the door!

This morning while I was showering I was oblivious to the sound of the fire alarm going off in my building. As I stepped out of the shower I heard the blaring alarm in the hallway. I peaked my head out the door and didn't see any smoke or fire. I took this as a I sign that I had some time to collect my valuables before heading out the door! My mind wandered through my entire apartment and it essentially focused on a few items. I started to gather my mental list.

What is important to me? Well let me tell you;

1) My camera bag filled with cameras, lenses and flashes
2) My external hard drive with all of my photos backed up
3) My laptop

4) My favorite dress (you have seen me in it a million times)
(Don't worry, these handsome cousins of mine were safe in Saskatchewan, far from the "fire")

5) My newest, unworn dress. I have been saving it for my very first art show

Anything else you ask? Passport? Jewelry? T.V.? Nope, nope, nope! Almost everything in my place can easily be replaced aside from the precious photos on my memory cards, laptop and hard drive. Every photo that I have taken are so precious to me. Beautiful memories and faces have been collected over the many years. There is one big thing that I could not take with me if a fire stole my living quarters. My personal art collection...

It would be so sad to ever loose these paintings but in the end these paintings will one day find a new home and they will no longer be in my possession. This acceptance has helped me flee from my burning home without 100 canvases stacked in my arms! As I opened my door ready to go I was greeted by firemen! They calmly assured me it was a false alarm and that I needn't rush out of the building. Perfect, now I can enjoy my morning coffee.
